-How did you get into music?

Well I’ve always been passionate about music, I grew up in an household that’s musically inclined, but mostly because of my aunt. Aunt Daniella she was a chorister at church, she sang so beautifully and she really inspired me to all want to join the choir, which I eventually did, from there I learnt a lot of things and developed my skills.

-Was there a particular point for you when you realised that you didn’t just like listening to music, but you also wanted to make it?
YES there was a point in life where I felt that way and that was when I was in secondary school back in Nigeria, music felt like a good escape and it was such a great place for me and my feelings so much one faithful day I tried singing my own words to a song, it felt really great but I knew if I wanted it to be more appealing I’d need to get better, so I made it my life’s work to listen to many genres as possible then come back and use a collection of those elements to try to conjure up something.

-What is a fan encounter that you’ll always remember?
Well I remember that time I was at Uni, I was coming out of the cafeteria at school, then a girl ran up up to me and asked if I was Mitchel and I replied Yes, then her eyes lit up with admiration and happiness she was so star struck and she kept on telling me how much my songs made her happy and that my talent really warms her soul,it was a first for me,someone was actually into my songs and she was elated about it, it gave me so much confidence and morale. It was really an wholesome experience.

-How do you go about writing your lyrics?
Well it’s pretty straightforward, if I’m using an  instrumental,I listen continuously then try putting words together, but if not when I get inspiration I just write down how I feel basically.

-How do you prepare yourself to record a new song in the studio?
I actually don’t have a strategy, I just go in the booth and record, because overthinking it makes me filled with anxiety, so I always make sure I maintain simplicity and everthing works out naturally.

-Who is an artist that you would like to collaborate with and why?
Well, I would love to collaborate with Burnaboy,he’s such a talented musician who has mastered his sound and what he brings to the music scene, you just can’t find anywhere.

-Is there a genre of music that you would like to explore more of ?
That would be Afro-fusion, I feel like there’s just more in that genre that needs to be unpacked.

-How has your personal journey influenced your music and lyrical themes?
It hasn’t just influenced it, my music is a mirror and representation of myself and my being.

-Have you got any special releases planned anytime soon?
Oh yes! I’m dropping an EP next year, I’m currently working on it,but in the meant time you can listen to my latest song Fine Wine by Mitchelx.

-Last but not least, what is your least favourite coping mechanism?
That would be taking everything so seriously, it drains me.
