Creativity and Inspirations: Thomas’ emergence
‘…trust the process and stay true to the original idea as I believe that is the most sincere form of expression.‘
– Do you sing in the shower? What songs?
Really depends on what time of day. In the morning it’s been a lot of Fleetwood Mac, Never going back again is definitely my most played at the minute. After work, when I’m getting back on the tube, I’ve been obsessed with D’ Angelo, especially I found my smile again.
– How would you describe the music that you typically create?
I listen to so many genres of music and enjoy all of them in their own unique ways. I try to incorporate how they all inspire me into one big melting point when going into the songwriting process
– What is your creative process like?
First and foremost a positive attitude. Nothing sounds good if your head is not in the game! If we’re getting technical, however, I’d say I always start by writing a motif on one instrument. I then try to lock in the rest of the parts around that initial idea, staying true as possible to the original inspiration.
– What can someone who doesn’t know your music expect?
I wish I could give a straight answer, but my sounds and inspirations are forever changing.
– Five years from now, how will you know you were successful?
I’m still making music that is true to the person I am.
– what would you tell your younger self
Don’t be too hard on yourself, what you think your missing might be getting in the way of what you already have!
– Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration
Listening to as much music as possible.
– Do you think that online presence is important for fans to find you and critics to find your music to write about?
Absolutely. However, I don’t agree with the idea that to be successful you have to follow a social media trend. Part of the reason I love promoting my music is that it gives me the opportunity to dive into film making and explore how music and visuals intertwine.
– Have your songs ever changed dramatically from the original idea to the final track?
For a while this was almost always the case as I love to bounce my music a million times then change it when the most the minor detail feels of. However, recently I’ve been really making an effort to trust the process and stay true to the original idea as I believe that is the most sincere form of expression.
– How do you feel the music industry has changed since you started your career?
I’ve only just begun so I’ll have to come back to you on this one!
