Visual Stories and Random moments
‘It gave me a sense of control over how the narrative is perceived and felt. As I started experimenting with editing tools, I found the process to be incredibly fulfilling.‘
–What was the idea for the first video you made?
The idea for my first video came from a desire to try something simple yet meaningful. I decided to create a video about the beauty of nature during my travels, using materials that were mostly my own. I wanted to depict something close to me while learning how to use tools like CapCut to edit it. Although it was simple, that video became the first step in building my confidence to create content. Your videos have a distinct visual style.
-Can you share the influences and experiences that have shaped your aesthetic?
The aesthetic aspect of my videos was initially shaped by my personal ideals. However, throughout the process, it has been influenced by a variety of experiences and inspirations. I have been greatly inspired by several amazing videographers, such as @iphilgoody, @alexanderjamestravel, @schyguyy, and others. From personal experience, I am someone who truly loves traveling, and these journeys have played a significant role in shaping my perspective. I’ve also learned a lot from online platforms, creative communities, and the works of other artists, which have helped me explore different styles and approaches. The combination of all these influences has allowed me to develop a unique visual style that reflects my personality.
–Which video has been the most challenging to create?
Actually, every video comes with its own challenges because, I feel, I am always required to create something interesting. However, I recall something from last year. I got my first client to promote a song from a well-known singer in Australia. To me, that was a quite challenging video because it was my first experience working with a client. Surprisingly, in this first experience, there were no revisions, and the project went very smoothly. Ah, there will always be a first for every piece of work. I really enjoy the process of everything, because it is the process that shapes who we are today.
–How do you choose the music to go with your videos? What comes first? The music or the visuals?
This is a question I often get from people who are curious about my process in making a video. Everyone has their own process. However, since I’ve been involved in the creative world, I’ve found myself quite comfortable starting with the visuals first. For me, having well-conceptualized and visually engaging footage sets the right mood. Once that’s established, the choice of music follows naturally, complementing the visual style.
–Where did your love for video editing come from?
My love for video editing came from a combination of personal interest and my desire to express creativity in a visual way. Ever since I was young, I’ve always been drawn to storytelling, whether through films, music videos, or even simple home videos. The idea of shaping a story and making it come alive through editing fascinated me. It gave me a sense of control over how the narrative is perceived and felt. As I started experimenting with editing tools, I found the process to be incredibly fulfilling. The ability to craft something unique by manipulating footage, sound, and effects felt like creating a piece of art. Over time, this passion grew, and I decided to pursue it further, which led me to where I am today—combining my love for storytelling with the craft of video editing.
–Would you say that you have been influenced by anybody in the movie making industry?
I am not influenced by anyone when it comes to making films in this industry. It purely comes from my long-standing passion for the film industry itself.
–Can you describe your dream project? No budget and unlimited manpower?
Ah! Currently, besides being a creator and movie maker, I run a production house with 10 members. This production house focuses on creating both commercial and non-commercial films, as well as managing social media as a whole. If there’s a dream project I want to pursue, it would be creating a documentary film about the beauty of Indonesia’s nature and its unique culture. Additionally, my desire is to have a limitless budget and a team that shares the same passion as me. That project would definitely be extraordinary! I hope that one day, this dream project will come true. I truly hope the universe supports it!
–What’s one song you wish you’d never heard?
There is no song that is inherently bad to listen to. It all depends on how people interpret the song. In the area where I live, I once heard a local song. I can’t recall the artist, but I wish I had never heard it because the lyrics were very vulgar, full of suggestions and curses. Sometimes I wonder, “What could have been going through the mind of the person who made this song?”
