Alistair Thaw is the pseudonym of a writer, academic, and electronic musician based in Sowerby Bridge – a market town without a market – in the Northwest of England. His prose has been published previously by The Chamber Magazine and thematically straddles the lines between horror, conceptual art, and poetry. Music-wise, he is responsible for albums by slowthaw, hole house and the haunters, among many others.
Currently, he records as coffin division (Instagram: @coffin_division), which adds a noisier, harsher dimension to what has previously been dubbed ‘ghost drone.’ There are plans to release new material on Whipped Bound Records in 2025.
Meanwhile, as an academic, Thaw spends his time teaching Social Science in Leeds. His research concerns the application of process philosophies to ‘traditional’ psychological topics, such as play and identity. His PhD thesis deployed schizoanalysis – a radical form of psychoanalysis – to map the creative interfacing of performance art, media, and desire.
