Esther Elliot- The War Has Just Begun

This is it. The war has just begun.
The sun has set, and darkness fills the sky.
The hills and trees dance harmonically on the horizon.
Where is the light that hits the waters?
There is no time to waste! My big sister says
As we head into the dark of night.
Only the faintest bit of sunlight can be seen
In the evening sky.
My last lingering hope is that we make it out alive.
In the distance, I hear no cry, perhaps we are the only people to survive.
Everyone else was swept away by the vast darkness that encompassed the hills and the trees.
Or swallowed into the deep dark sea.
There was no one left
Except me and my sister.
The war hasn’t ended.
There is more yet to come
