Katharine Cossham – Bittersweet Beltane

Daffodils have dwindled away
Tulip petals and blossom blend
With broken glass that will not mend
Overseen by the Queen of May
Pyramids of candelabra
Cream jewels amidst a green gown
Gracious life raft so I don’t drown
Tower of strength and power
Cow parsley tall enough to hide
A child, like me, stopping on walks
Dad sketching its skeleton stalks
By his side, I watched with pride
