No Slumps, Just Spirit: The Steady Hand of Iconography
– Is there a name for your art style?
I am a meticulous artist and deeply influenced by traditional Greek, Russian Byzantine styles, The way these traditions emphasise intricate iconography, bold use of colour, and symbolic layers give my work a timeless quality, creating pieces that are rich in history and the same technique found in all my work.
– How did you get into making sketch art?
I started out when my friend asked me to write icons, he purchased the supplies I studied the art of writing icons and I enjoyed it so I kept on doing it. I have been doing it for over 30 years.
– Was there a moment in your life that solidified this passion? Could you describe it?
When I completed my first church. The joy that it brought to the parishioners, is very humbling and I love to see their expressions when they first see the Icons. Icons have such a profound spiritual significance, and to witness that impact firsthand is powerful.

They are equally important

– Where does the creative process begin for you?
Before I put anything to paper and it just comes to me. I see something of interest and build from there.
– Is it easy for you to lose yourself when you are creating?
No, I am focused and if I stray and I bring myself back.
– Has your perception of art changed over the years?
Not particularly
– Do you believe that art is as creative as people claim it to be?
I don’t really think about it and just do what I do.
– Last but not least, what is your most effective way of getting out of a creative slump?
I really haven’t gotten into a slump……I just do it.
