Stephen Ferry- A Leaf

The Autumn arrived, cold and impenitent
I heard the gentle breeze whisper a lullaby
The sun found comfort below the horizon,
Tired from its summer labor
I watched dusk surrender to the darkness of night
The chill and emptiness caused me to shutter
The dawn broke early, quiet and calm
I watched the heavy fog struggle for freedom
A sparkling frost painted the valley, bold and bright
I swear I saw angels dancing with grace
Maybe it was delusion or my strength beginning to fade
My grip was slipping, I knew my end was near
I was a leaf falling, still dressed in deep red
The wind had me twisted, spinning in a panic
But in moments I saw the beauty, a final celebration
Flashes of gold, auburn, purple, and brown danced by
I found peace in the rapture as the breeze sang my dirge
I settled on the hard ground, my grave
