Uzomah Ugwu – The Man He Couldn’t Be

A long talk about things
not meant for afternoons where the sun
would rest reflecting the kind of mood
stilled with ease matched with a certain breeze
lifting buried soldiers off their feet
in a hurry to retreat rather than
fight this war at home that
does not promote life.
He ripped a mountain from its roots
to live a truth that he either would
be confided to or be set free by
left up in an atmosphere where others
could see his conversations with god
were lost in a forgotten sea
his silence left him with
the man he couldn’t be.
